Indian oil marketing companies are unlikely to reduce petrol and diesel prices immediately, despite the recent decline in crude oil prices.
The three state-run OMCs reportedly incurred around ₹1 lakh crore of cumulative under-recoveries on petrol, diesel and LPG during March–May 2026, primarily due to elevated crude prices and limited retail price increases.
Companies are expected to use the current period of relatively lower crude prices to recover these losses before considering any retail price cuts.
Analysts also caution that global oil inventories remain tight, leaving room for crude prices to rise again if geopolitical risks or supply disruptions re-emerge.
