Infosys Buys 2 US Companies for ₹5,250 Crore

Infosys has got green light from its board to buy two American firms for a total of ₹5,250 crore.

The two companies are:

• Optimum Healthcare IT – a top healthcare technology firm that helps hospitals with digital systems.

• Stratus – a company that provides tech solutions for insurance (especially property and casualty insurance).

These buys will help Infosys grow stronger in healthcare and insurance sectors. They will bring in expert teams, new clients, and better skills in AI, cloud, and digital transformation.

The deals are all-cash and are expected to finish in early 2027.

CCPA has told hotels and restaurants not to add ‘LPG charges’, ‘gas surcharge’ or ‘fuel cost recovery’ to bills by default. It says menu price plus applicable taxes is the valid charge, and extra mandatory fees can mislead consumers.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀:

– Hotels and restaurants cannot automatically add ‘LPG charges’, ‘gas charges’ or similar fees to the bill
– Only applicable taxes can be added over the menu price
– CCPA says fuel, LPG, electricity and other running costs must already be built into menu pricing

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗱:

– The authority said it received complaints through the National Consumer Helpline and also noted media reports
– It said some eateries were using these charges in a way similar to service charges, which reduces price transparency
– Such billing has been called an unfair trade practice under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄:

– Consumers should not be forced to pay any extra charge that is not voluntary
– If such a fee appears, they can ask the restaurant to remove it
– Complaints can be filed through NCH, the e-Jagriti portal, or with the district collector or CCPA
